Efforts to Optimize the Role of LSPro

The Ministry of Industry reviews the optimization of the Product Certification Institute (LSPro). This is done in order to accelerate the development in testing and certifying an industrial product that conforms to standards.

"This policy also refers to other countries in an effort to protect their industry. For example, Malaysia, China and India have only one LSPro, ”said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita during a working visit at the Central Laboratory of PT Sucofindo (Persero), Cibitung, Bekasi, Wednesday.

The Minister of Industry said that currently in Indonesia there are 51 LSPro's whose job is to provide written guarantees that a product, process or service has met the applicable standards or regulations. "We will fix the existing LSPro, of course with regard to quality and capacity," he said.

Agus hopes that this effort will create efficiency in the process and maintain the quality of the issued certification. “In essence, the government is determined to protect domestic industries from invading imported products. Therefore, instruments are needed to spur the competitiveness of national products while maintaining the health and safety of consumers and the environment, "he said.

The instrument that is generally applied in Indonesia is the compulsory enforcement of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI), which focuses primarily on products related to Security, Health, Human Safety and the Environment (K3L). By continuing to prioritize the principle of fairness in international trade, the implementation of compulsory SNI can aim to increase access to foreign markets and reduce the rate of imports.

Based on Law Number 3 of 2014 concerning Industry, it is stated that the compulsory SNI conformity assessment shall be carried out by LSPro and Test Laboratories that have been accredited and appointed by the minister. Among the 4,984 SNIs in the industrial sector that have been stipulated by BSN, as many as 113 SNIs have been stipulated to be enforced compulsorily by the Minister of Industry.

The Minister of Industry gave his appreciation to PT Sucofindo which has the largest laboratory in Southeast Asia. LSPro PT Sucofindo in Cibitung has participated in the application of 61 mandatory SNIs in the industrial sector for upstream and downstream chemical products, agro, non-metal, electronic, metal, and various products. "Hopefully, the role of PT Sucofindo's LSPro can protect industrial products that have been produced by the nation's children," he added.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT Sucofindo (Persero) Bachder Djohan Buddin explained, PT Sucofindo is a state-owned company engaged in TIC (Testing, Inspection, Certification) which has five service groups, namely inspection, testing, certification, consulting, and training. .

"The five service groups are divided into 10 service portfolios to assist the business world in obtaining assurance in terms of quality, quantity, and the fulfillment of other requirements," he said.

The capacities and capabilities possessed by PT Sucofindo, among them have 168 types of services with the support of 28 branches, 41 operational service units at home and abroad, as well as 57 laboratories spread throughout Indonesia. Then, besides being accredited by national and international accreditation bodies, it has also served more than 10,000 customers,

"We have the most complete laboratory facilities in Indonesia and the largest in Southeast Asia, such as the Laboratory for Environmental Chemistry, General Chemistry, Oil Gas and Petrochemical, Calibration, Engineering and Mechanics as well as Coal and Minerals," he said.

PT Sucofindo has also been appointed by the Ministry of Industry as one of the institutions that conducts inspection, supervision, testing for certification and product quality testing. In addition, Sucofindo has certified and tested SNI Products for various categories, ranging from safety equipment (safety shoes), measurement equipment (water meters), electronic products and electrical equipment, agriculture (fertilizers), food products, glass and ceramic products, construction materials (cement), as well as children's toys and baby clothes.
