Artificial Intelligence Technology Increases Industrial Productivity
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is one form of industrial application 4.0 to increase the efficiency of the manufacturing process and industrial productivity. This is in line with the implementation of the Making Indonesia 4.0 road map to encourage the birth of an innovation-based economy.
"If we look at simple terminology, AI replaces the function of humans or machines in processing information. By producing machine language, all analytical data can be processed, so that decision making can be faster and anticipate market needs or demands, "said the Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) Ministry of Industry, Taufiek Bawazier in Jakarta, Friday ( 21/8).
The Director General of ILMATE explained that the Ministry of Industry continues to encourage the manufacturing sector to immediately use industrial technology 4.0 to boost product quality and production capacity. Previously, there were five sectors that were pioneers in the application of industry 4.0 in the country, namely the food and beverage industry, textiles and clothing, automotive, chemical, and electronics.
"However, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Industry added two more sectors as pioneers, namely the pharmaceutical industry and medical devices. This step is the government's commitment to expand the application of industry 4.0, "said Taufiek.
Because, currently both sectors are experiencing very high demand. Meanwhile, the five initial priority sectors have been able to make a significant contribution to the national economy reaching 60 percent.
"The government is determined to continue to maintain the activities of the industrial sector because so far it has consistently supported the economy. But because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the government has also emphasized that industrial companies and industrial estates must strictly carry out health protocols, "he added.
According to Taufiek, in addition to maintaining the sustainability of the industrial sector, the government also focuses on spurring its competitiveness. One of the strategies is to encourage the use of digital technology such as AI in order to generate innovation.
"Creating innovations must be started by making the most of modern technology, so as to realize a sustainable increase in added value and economy. This needs to be supported through research activities, "he explained.
Regarding research and innovation, Taufiek divides it into two parts, namely research for research and research for industry. "We are more focused on research to build the economy. The reason is, using AI technology can increase productivity, absorb labor and increase skills so that exports and GDP also increase, which also affects tax increases, "he said.
Taufiek is optimistic, if industry 4.0 is well implemented in the manufacturing sector, Indonesia will be part of the 10 countries that have the strongest economies in the world by 2030 according to the big aspirations of Making Indonesia 4.0. In addition, Indonesia also has big aspirations to become a high income country in 2045 to coincide with the celebration of 100 years of independence day.
"Of course, the acceleration of the target needs to be supported by the readiness of the industrial sector and it requires competent human resources," he said. Therefore, the Ministry of Industry has also prioritized the development of human resources needed by the manufacturing sector in the Industrial 4.0 era.
